I’m really digging this iLoveMakonnen EP. he’s got that hit-you-in-the-gut-honesty of a Daniel Johnston but the mentality to make it a banger which very much works for me. this is my favorite track off the EP.
finally got around to watching the Veronica Mars movie (I know, I know what took me so damn long?) and I gotta say it was a pretty okay movie but for die hard fans an absolute must see cathartic experience. we live in a weird era of cinema where fans essentially/occasionally will their entertainment into existence which is kinda awesome but also kinda bothersome. did this movie NEED to exist? maybe. is it little more than fan service wrapped around a pretty solid murder mystery? pretty much, yeah. and I ate it up while still being aware that I was eating it up. I’m very conflicted about this b/c I very much enjoyed this movie but I don’t actually think that on it’s own terms it’s a very good movie. w/out all the background from the 3 seasons of television this movie would be nothing to write home about. there’s subplots and characters that do not need to be here and serve very lil purpose to the actual story being told. and the central mystery which over the course of a season could have been immensely satisfying just seems a lil too easy a solve for our all growed up sleuth. maybe I’m be a lil too nitpicky but while watching this movie I realized that I personally as a fan didn’t want or need this movie. did I want more adventures of Veronica Mars and her crew of friends and enemies? sure I did, but not a movie. another season maybe. which clearly wasn’t gonna happen. the entire movie I kept thinking I was getting exactly what I wanted (more Veronica Mars) but not 100% enjoying it b/c the form was different and felt different and truncated and, dare I say it, wrong? there was one particular scene I absolutely loved in which Max Greenfield returns and pretends not to remember or know who Veronica is. it’s great b/c Greenfield is pretending to be a sort of middle America surrogate who kinda recall this female detective character from their tv box but it isn’t quite clicking. and we the audience along with Ms. Mars herself are sitting there going “no way he doesn’t remember her/me! she’s/I’m Veronica fuckin Mars!” of course he remembers Veronica and gets a pizza out of the deal but it’s a wonderful lil meta moment where for a moment Veronica and her adventures in tv land seem irrelevant and forgettable. which clearly they aren’t to us, the fans, and Veronica personally. and as much as I enjoyed that scene and the presence of the wonderful Mr. Greenfield it is again a rather useless scene narratively speaking and falls squarely into the fan service department. to be fair I have to admit I had a damn good time w/ the movie overall but couldn’t get past these lil nitpicky thoughts in my head questioning the entire enterprise altogether.
the absolute best part of Bad Teacher.
